Bio-Nature Cooperative goal £911
The 18 members of the Bio-Nature cooperative, are a very new group and only came together in July.
Their first loan will give the cooperative, of rice, corn and cereal farmers, the chance to invest in their businesses for the first time. They will use the loan to buy seeds and fertiliser which will enable them to move away from subsistence farming and start to increase their yield and productivity.
The difference the loan will make gives hope to the group. Many of them hope to be able to improve their family’s living conditions and move out of poverty and hunger. They wish to support their family’s needs and send their children to school
Widow, 27 year old Afi, cares for her children and parents and hopes one day to become a goat breeder as well as a rice farmer, to give her and her family a more secure income.
55 year old Ayawa and his wife both work up to 60 hours per week in the field to look after their children and other family members, and the loan will help them to increase the size of their land and therefore increase their harvest. Ayawa hopes one day to be able to build his family a home.
Being a part of the cooperative allows the members to be able to think about their futures and gives them hope for a better life.
