Elom Lankouvi Community Group
The women of the Lankouvi community share one ambition: to create a brighter future for their families and for their community.
They are all self-employed and want to be able to grow their businesses, and now, thanks to generous sponsors like you, they will have the opportunity to do so.
In June 2019, they had a meeting with Christine, a field officer at IADES, and learnt about accessing essential start-up funds and support through Deki loans.
Located in Lankouvi in Lome, close to the southwest Togo-Ghana border, the group now has 24 members aged between 22 and 64. They run a variety of business including growing fruits and vegetables, selling clothes, jewellery and home-made cakes at the market.
Over the last couple of weeks, they have been holding meetings, attending their first business training sessions and are now ready to receive their first Deki loan. The training helps the group members to know where to best invest their loans – many will buy more stock at a bulk price, have a chance to diversify their business or invest in raw materials to make their products at a better price point. They will aim to pay their loan back over 8 monthly instalments.
As well as the business training, the group will have the chance to attend community support workshops, such as malaria prevention and good nutrition which are run by local specialist organisations.
Once the group loan of £2,462 has been funded by generous sponsors like you, the loans will be distributed, and the group members’ business ventures can reap benefits and help to lift the whole community out of poverty.
